Crisp apples coated in a glossy red sugar shell make a nostalgic, crowd-pleasing treat—perfect for parties and a festive Mardi Gras dessert table

Candy Apples

Makes 8 servings
Ingredients
  • small to medium apples*
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon red food coloring
Instructions
  1. Wash apples well to remove any wax. Pull out the apple stems. Insert a stick into the apple where the stem was.
  2. Mix the corn syrup, sugar, and ¾ cup water in a saucepan. Boil until the mixture reaches the hard boil stage, about 300° on a candy thermometer. Add a few drops of food coloring to the saucepan and stir until the candy coating mixture is evenly colored.
  3. Dip each apple into the candy coating mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and then place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to cool.
Notes
*I use red delicious apples
