Crisp apples coated in a glossy red sugar shell make a nostalgic, crowd-pleasing treat—perfect for parties and a festive Mardi Gras dessert table
Candy Apples
Makes 8 servings
Ingredients
- small to medium apples*
- ¼ cup light corn syrup
- 2 cups sugar
- ¾ cup water
- ½ teaspoon red food coloring
Instructions
- Wash apples well to remove any wax. Pull out the apple stems. Insert a stick into the apple where the stem was.
- Mix the corn syrup, sugar, and ¾ cup water in a saucepan. Boil until the mixture reaches the hard boil stage, about 300° on a candy thermometer. Add a few drops of food coloring to the saucepan and stir until the candy coating mixture is evenly colored.
- Dip each apple into the candy coating mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and then place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to cool.
Notes
*I use red delicious apples
