Sweet, crunchy popcorn balls made with Steen’s Cane Syrup are a nostalgic treat. Perfectly sticky, golden, and ideal for parties, gifting, or Mardi Gras celebrations.
Popcorn Balls
Makes 8
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons neutral oil
- 1½ cups popcorn kernels
- 1 cup Steen’s Cane Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ⅓ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Heat oil on high in a large pot that has a lid. Test to see if oil is ready by dropping a couple of popcorn kernels in. When the popcorn kernels pop, the oil is ready.
- Add the remaining kernels and cover. As the kernels begin to pop, listen closely for when the popping slows down. Set popcorn aside.
- Heat syrup and sugar in a large pot to 350°. Use a candy thermometer to test the temperature.
- Add the vanilla and salt and stir just well enough to mix. Add the syrup mixture to the popcorn and mix well. Form the popcorn into balls and set onto wax paper.
