A festive twist on a classic cocktail, the Spiced Cranberry French 75 pairs bright lemon and gin with homemade spiced cranberry syrup and a splash of sparkling wine.
Spiced Cranberry French 75
Makes 2 to 4 servings
Ingredients
- 2 ounces dry gin, plus more for rim of glass
- Sparkling sugar
- 2 ounces fresh lemon juice
- 1 ounce Spiced Cranberry Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
- 4 ounces sparkling white wine, chilled
- Garnish: fresh rosemary sprigs
Instructions
- Lightly dip rim of 2 to 4 cocktail or rocks glasses into gin; dip into sparkling sugar as desired. Refrigerate for at least 5 minutes.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, and Spiced Cranberry Simple Syrup. Add ice, cover, and shake until cold. Strain into prepared glasses. Top with wine. Garnish with rosemary, if desired.
Spiced Cranberry Simple Syrup
Makes 1½ cups
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsweetened cranberry juice
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 whole star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 whole cloves
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let cool overnight. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
