Founded in 2019 by Michael Frugé, a second-generation rice farmer from Eunice, Parish Rice is breaking the mold on how we experience white rice. Michael, whose family has a long-standing history with Louisiana agriculture, started the company with a simple but ambitious goal: to grow better, healthier rice while preserving the traditions and sustainability of local farming. With Parish Rice, eating better doesn’t mean eating differently—it means knowing where your food comes from, how it’s grown, and how it can fuel a healthier, happier life.

Michael’s journey to founding Parish Rice began through his collaboration with the LSU AgCenter. It was there that he was introduced to a variety of rice called Frontier, which would become the cornerstone of Parish Rice’s mission. Frontier rice is unique for two key reasons: It has a higher protein content than traditional white rice, and it boasts the lowest glycemic index value of any white rice on the market. This means that Parish Rice is not only delicious but also more nutritious.

Being health-conscious is not the only thing that makes Parish Rice a superior grain. The company’s commitment to sustainability and food education is also admirable. It sources and harvests its rice entirely in Louisiana, ensuring quality while supporting local agriculture. Knowing where your food comes from matters to the company, and it should to you, too. It also aims to educate consumers about the importance of sustainable farming practices—a mission that’s increasingly vital in today’s changing climate and food economy.

“We’re blending the old with the new with modern research that’s pushing agriculture forward. Parish Rice is proof that you can farm sustainably, support your local community, and still deliver a product that’s better for your health.”

When getting down to the nitty-gritty of the rice itself, it’s a versatile, easy-to-cook staple that is made to fit a variety of diets. Because of its low glycemic index and higher protein content, it’s a great choice for athletes in training, families trying to eat more-healthful foods, or anyone who may be dealing with health concerns but who still wants to enjoy comforting, familiar meals. Unlike some health foods that require sacrificing taste or texture, Parish Rice offers a flavorful, satisfying option without compromise.

What sets Parish Rice apart is its combination of tradition and innovation. Headquartered in Cajun Country, Michael’s operation blends generations of farming knowledge with cutting-edge agricultural research. The result is a product that delivers on every front: It’s nutritious, environmentally conscious, and locally grown with care. This rice is more than just a side dish; it’s a symbol of the future of American agriculture: sustainable, transparent, and built on a foundation of community and care.
