This Grilled Okra with Spicy-Sweet Dipping Sauce pairs charred, tender okra with a creamy, tangy sauce for an easy Louisiana-inspired appetizer or summer side dish.
Grilled Okra with Spicy-Sweet Dipping Sauce
Makes about 6 servings
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
- 2 tablespoons sweet and spicy hot sauce*
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1½ pounds medium fresh okra pods
- 12 metal or wooden skewers (see Kitchen Tips)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, green onion, hot sauce, lemon juice, and garlic. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat (350° to 400°), or heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium heat.
- Thread about 6 okra pods onto 6 skewers, piercing near tops. Thread remaining skewers through bottoms of okra. Brush oil onto okra.
- In a small bowl, combine salt, garlic powder, and pepper; sprinkle half of salt mixture onto okra.
- Grill over direct heat or cook until tender and grill marks form, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Sprinkle with remaining salt mixture. Serve with mayonnaise mixture.

*We used Try Me Tiger Sauce.

If using wooden skewers, soak in warm water for 30 minutes before using. Instead of brushing oil onto okra, you can also toss okra, oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl and thread onto skewers.
