In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, green onion, hot sauce, lemon juice, and garlic. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Preheat grill to medium-high heat (350° to 400°), or heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium heat.
Thread about 6 okra pods onto 6 skewers, piercing near tops. Thread remaining skewers through bottoms of okra. Brush oil onto okra.
In a small bowl, combine salt, garlic powder, and pepper; sprinkle half of salt mixture onto okra.
Grill over direct heat or cook until tender and grill marks form, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Sprinkle with remaining salt mixture. Serve with mayonnaise mixture.

Kitchen Tips If using wooden skewers, soak in warm water for 30 minutes before using. Instead of brushing oil onto okra, you can also toss okra, oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl and thread onto skewers.
