Mardi Gras Eats: Louisiana’s Best Fried Chicken

NEW ORLEANS SEVENTH WARD: A few minutes’ drive from City Park, Bayou St. John, and the Fairgrounds Racecourse, intrepid diners will find crunchy-fried perfection at McHardy’s Chicken & Fixin’. The takeout-only restaurant dishes out unbeatable spicy chicken with freshly made dipping sauces. In addition to the fried chicken, McHardy’s serves red beans and rice and pickled jalapeño peppers, and they should not be missed.

SHREVEPORT: In Shreveport it’s all about Southern Classic Fried Chicken, which is to Shreveport as cheesesteaks are to Philly. Southern Classic has achieved absolute perfection in seasoning and crispiness. Not too hot, and not too bland.

  1. I don’t see Willie Mae’s Scotch House on the list. That’s the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life. It’s on St. Ann, in New Orleans.

    • Willie Mae’s Scotch House is indeed excellent! With this list, we tried to hit places all around the state. You’ll see Willie Mae’s on here before too long!

  2. The best fried chicken is in West Monroe! We have amazing restaurants in Ouachita Parish. Next time head to Magic Grill chicken in West Monroe for amazing chicken and rolls.

  3. Italian Pie in Chalmette, started selling fried chicken and its the best in St Bernard area for sure. Their red beans are also really good.
