Madeline Ellis has had a lifelong love of making jewelry, but she followed a career in landscape architecture. After her entrepreneurial husband, Dawson, suggested selling her jewelry creations, though, an 18-year journey began with Mimosa Handcrafted. Madeline and Dawson went from a small tackle box of homemade baubles to a brick-and-mortar shop just off the bourgeoning Government Street corridor in Baton Rouge where they sell stunning bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and even cufflinks, belt buckles, and lapel pins.

ANCIENT TECHNIQUES
After experimenting with different techniques, Madeline and the team have focused on creating metalwork pieces with the lost wax casting technique (which has been used to create intricate jewelry for more than 6,000 years).
GIVING BACK
In addition to an annual peanut butter drive for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, orders made at mimosahandcrafted.com include a list of curated nonprofits that customers can choose from that will receive a 1% donation from the order. Recent beneficiaries have included Dose of the Coast (doseofthecoast.org) and the River Road African American Museum (riverroadaam.org).
LOCAL BITES
“Elsie’s Plate and Pie is amazing. I eat a lot of salads, but I would say if I was going to eat whatever I wanted to eat, I would get the Crawfish Queso that comes on a skillet that comes with fried crackling for dipping. It’s unreal. It’s too much,” Madeline shares.
