Christmas Eve marks the annual Bonfires on the Levee to guide in Papa Noël (a.k.a. Santa Claus). This unique holiday tradition that spans generations takes place on the River Road region between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, with many flocking to Gramercy, Lutcher, and Paulina for the spectacle. Those in attendance will create 20- to 30-foot-high pyramid-shaped log bonfires—sometimes other wooden shapes and sculptures are present—while mingling with family and friends and cherishing the spirit of the season.
