This family-friendly event takes place along the lakefront near the Lake Charles Event Center. Kick things off with a hot dog-eating contest, boat parade, and other recreational games and then end the day with flamethrowers, live music from local bands, and a fireworks show. Make sure to bring a folding chair or a blanket to save your spot on the lawn. This is sure to be a summer event full of patriotic pride and community spirit.

WHAT: Toledo Bend Boat Parade & Fireworks Show

WHERE: Toledo Bend Lake and Cypress Bend Park

WHEN: July 4, 2026

This annual boat parade is a beloved summer tradition for residents along the Louisiana-Texas border, and this year is extra special with America250 in the mix. During the day, families line the shoreline and gather on the docks to appreciate the decorated boats gliding in formation. Come nightfall, marvel at a fireworks show with festive colors brilliantly reflecting on the water below.

LAFAYETTE

 

WHAT: 250 Acts of Pride or Service Challenge

WHERE: Lafayette

WHEN: All year long

Rather than a single event, the Lafayette community is encouraging residents to take part in its 250 Acts of Pride or Service initiative over the course of the year to honor the USA’s 250th anniversary. Participants can log their efforts—neighborhood cleanups, donating to nonprofits, mentoring youth, and other meaningful acts of kindness, large or small—as a way to foster community while in service of others.

BATON ROUGE

 

WHAT: America 250: Traveling Trunksolution

WHERE: Zachary Branch Library

WHEN: July 28, 2026 | 9 a.m.–9 p.m.

This immersive pop-up experience is coming to the Baton Rouge area in celebration of America250 and in partnership with the Louisiana State Library and the Louisiana State Museum. The trunks are essentially mini museum kits created for short-term installations and exhibits. Zachary Branch Library’s trunks will be filled with replica artifacts, maps and visual materials, structured activity cards, and more that walk participants through things such as the history of Louisiana under Spanish rule during the colonial period and Louisiana’s role in the American Revolution.

AVOYELLES PARISH

 

WHAT: Avoyelles Arts & Music Festival

WHERE: Downtown Marksville at Paragon Casino Resort grounds

WHEN: July 4, 2026

This lively festival is one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in central Louisiana. It seamlessly blends food, live music (brass bands, country, and zydeco), artisan vendors, local crafts, a car and motorcycle show, and plenty of other activities for the whole family to enjoy. This year, it’s sure to be even more special since it’s a part of the official America250 celebrations.

This northeast Louisiana Independence Day tradition is brimming with small-town charm. While it’s smaller in scale compared to other festivals across the state, there’s a strong sense of local pride, with kids leading the celebration in their own creative ways.

WHAT: America Cemetery Walking Tour

WHERE: American Cemetery

Think of this guided walking tour as more of a history lesson than just a visit to the cemetery. Running at just under an hour, it stops at notable family plots and graves that have played a role or tell a story about colonial life in Louisiana. It’s a recurring program, but with America250 in mind, there is an emphasis on how Natchitoches fits into the nation’s story.
