Gâteau de Sirop
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup Steen’s Cane Syrup
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup pecan halves
- Whipped cream, for serving
- Preheat the oven to 350°.
- Put the butter into a 9-inch round baking pan. Put the pan in the oven just long enough to melt the butter. Remove the pan from the oven, and tilt the pan to spread the butter evenly.
- Beat the egg in a large mixing bowl. Add the syrup and the flour and mix well to blend.
- Add the baking soda to the 1 cup boiling water and then add the mixture to the syrup-flour mixture. Be careful when adding the baking soda-boiling water mixture, as it will bubble.
- Pour the batter in the pan, cover the top of the mixture with pecan halves, and bake for 20 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream.
